China Conducts Massive Military Drills Around Taiwan
Taiwan’s Defense Ministry reported the detection of 153 Chinese military aircraft in proximity to the island during large-scale military exercises held by China. The ministry noted that this was the highest number of aircraft recorded in a single day, with 111 crossing the Taiwan Strait’s median line. Additionally, 14 Chinese navy ships were spotted near Taiwan.
Japan expressed concerns to Beijing regarding the military activity, while China’s military stated that the operation, named “Joint Sword-2024B,” was meant to warn against “separatist acts” and conducted drills around and near Taiwan. Taiwan responded by deploying forces and placing outlying islands on high alert.
With tensions escalating, the Pentagon criticized China’s actions as destabilizing, while the EU urged restraint and dialogue to resolve cross-strait tensions peacefully. Germany, along with other countries, showed support for Taiwan by passing ships through the Taiwan Strait.
As the situation unfolds, global observers continue to closely monitor developments between Taiwan and China, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region.
