South African President Calls for Ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon

South Africa’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa, urged world leaders to pressure Israel to stop its attacks in Gaza and Lebanon. Speaking at an event in Johannesburg marking 100 days in power, Ramaphosa called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and humanitarian assistance for the people affected by the conflict.

The ANC, South Africa’s ruling party, is in a coalition government due to not winning a majority in the last election. Ramaphosa announced that his government will present its case at the International Court of Justice to support the people of Palestine against the genocide happening in Gaza.

He expressed concerns about Israel’s bombings in Lebanon and highlighted the case filed against Israel at the Hague Tribunal by several countries. The court has ordered Israel to halt its offensive in Gaza to reduce the death toll and humanitarian suffering.

South Africa stands in solidarity with Palestine and will continue to support its people in their struggle for peace.
