During his annual speech to open the Shura Council, Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, accused Israel of deliberately escalating aggression in the West Bank and Lebanon as part of pre-planned schemes. He stated that Israel took this action because it believed the opportunity for such actions existed.
The Shura Council, which holds legislative authority in Qatar, will propose amendments to the country’s constitution and hold a popular referendum vote on them. However, the council does not have a say in defense, security, economic, and investment policies in the country, as those decisions are made by the ruling government.
