The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) is calling on the Presidency to support the genuine implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
CEPO’s Executive Director, Edmund Yakani, emphasized the importance of adequate and timely funding for the R-ARCSS mechanisms during the two-year extension of the transitional government. Yakani raised concerns about the potential impact on the credibility of the elections in 2026 if the Presidency fails to fulfill its responsibilities.
Yakani highlighted the need for the Presidency to prioritize regular meetings to aid in the implementation of the pending tasks of the R-ARCSS. He also expressed concerns about individuals with personal interests influencing the Presidency and hindering progress on outstanding R-ARCSS chapters.
CEPO is committed to monitoring the Presidency’s performance over the next two years, especially in identifying leaders who are not committed to implementing the R-ARCSS. The postponement of South Sudan’s General Election to 2026 due to inadequate preparedness has further fueled frustration among international observers.
