Recent violence in Wonduruba Area of Juba County, Central Equatoria State, led to the brutal murder of 10 youths, causing fear and displacement among civilians. However, local authorities are working to restore peace and encourage the community to return home.
Stephen Michael Towongo, a local official, stated that they are conducting patrols, holding rallies, and involving chiefs to reassure civilians and prevent further chaos. The situation is gradually stabilizing, with shops reopening but closing early out of caution.
Efforts are being made to address security concerns, promote unity, and ensure the safety of residents. Despite the tragic incident, only 10 deaths and 4 injuries have been reported, with investigations ongoing to identify the perpetrators.
Towongo emphasized the importance of civilian cooperation, urging them to resume normal activities and trust in the authorities’ protection. Additionally, measures have been taken to limit military presence in civilian areas to avoid escalating tensions.
