Devastating Lumpy Skin Disease Outbreak in Lakes State
Recently, Lakes State officials reported an alarming outbreak of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) that has affected over 5,000 animals, resulting in the death of at least 273 head of cattle. With 1,480 animals still infected, the situation is dire.
Minister of animal resource and fisheries, Samuel Gai, called for immediate intervention from the national government and partners to address the crisis. He emphasized the importance of preventive measures such as isolating sick animals and maintaining clean cow pens.
As the disease continues to spread across eight counties, local communities are struggling to cope. Veterinarians are working tirelessly to vaccinate and treat infected animals, but the lack of resources is hindering their efforts.
It is crucial for the government and organizations like the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to provide the necessary support to combat this deadly outbreak. Every day without intervention leads to more deaths and further devastation in Lakes State.
