The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, revealed that from July to October 2024, a total of 10,852 suspects were arrested, 416 arms, 3,672 ammunition, and 178 vehicles were recovered, and 369 kidnapped citizens were rescued. This significant decrease in crime rates was highlighted during a meeting with senior officers in Abuja.
Egbetokun emphasized the success in combating violent crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, and cybercrime, urging for continued vigilance. With the upcoming Ondo governorship election, preparations are underway to ensure a secure environment for voters to freely exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.
Increased patrols and proactive policing measures will be implemented to enhance security during the ember months. The police force will work collaboratively with other security agencies, INEC, and stakeholders to ensure a free, fair, and credible election in Ondo State.
It is essential to intensify efforts in securing urban and semi-urban areas, major highways, and to engage in intelligence-driven operations to safeguard the public during the holiday period. Overall, a strategic approach and coordination with partners are crucial in bolstering security nationwide.
