New fire truck acquired by W. Bahr el Ghazal State

The civil defense authorities in Western Bahr el Ghazal State were thrilled to receive a new fire engine from the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority Headquarters in Juba. The fire truck will be used to combat fires in Wau Municipality Council and surrounding areas.

During the handover ceremony, Wau Airport Civil Aviation Authority Director Paul Guy expressed gratitude for the vehicle, stating that they had faced many challenges without it. Wau Mayor Dasio William Taban also thanked the National Civil Aviation Authority and promised to maintain the truck with fuel and spare parts.

Taban announced plans to introduce a new emergency call channel for residents to report fires and dangers. This initiative aims to improve the municipality’s ability to respond to fire outbreaks effectively.

State Minister for Local Government Law Enforcement Agencies, Robert Kornelo, welcomed the gift from the national government and emphasized the importance of cooperation to ensure the truck’s continued functionality.

With the addition of the new fire engine, Wau town can now better address fire emergencies that have been challenging since South Sudan gained independence in 2011.
