Israel’s Stance on Cease-Fire and Lebanon Conference
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel conveyed to French President Emmanuel Macron that Israel would not accept a unilateral cease-fire in Lebanon or a settlement allowing Hezbollah to rearm. Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s commitment to preventing Hezbollah from threatening its citizens and ensuring their safe return home.
Netanyahu expressed opposition to any arrangements that do not halt Hezbollah’s rearmament and regrouping. He was also concerned about Macron’s plan to host a conference on Lebanon in Paris, involving nations that deny Israel’s right to self-defense and existence.
Despite tensions, Macron affirmed France’s commitment to Israel’s security and continued military support. Israel has been conducting airstrikes in Lebanon since September to target Hezbollah.
The situation remains complex, with conflicting statements and actions from both sides. Israel’s priority is to safeguard its citizens and prevent Hezbollah’s aggression.
