Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, announced plans to bolster the country’s army presence in the south following any ceasefire agreement. With 4,500 soldiers currently stationed in south Lebanon, Mikati aims to increase this number to between 7,000 and 11,000. He stated in an interview with AFP that once a ceasefire is in place, soldiers from other parts of the country can be relocated to the south.
In addition to increasing military presence, Mikati emphasized that security measures have been heightened at Beirut’s airport to prevent any potential Israeli attacks. He reassured that the government is taking necessary steps to eliminate any possible pretexts for aggression.
