Ensuring food security through innovative solutions is a top priority for Stella Osafile, the lawmaker representing Amuwo Odofin Local Government (AOLG) Constituency 1 at the Lagos State House of Assembly. Recently, she announced the community’s production of stevia, a plant-based sweetener, at the 9th Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting in Lagos.
The meeting focused on youth participation and home-grown farming to tackle food insecurity. Osafile highlighted the importance of urban farming and the introduction of stevia as a lucrative crop. She emphasized the benefits of stevia, such as its low-calorie nature and high market demand.
The Speaker of LSHA, Mudashiru Obasa, also emphasized the need for sustainable agricultural solutions. He mentioned various government initiatives aimed at increasing agricultural productivity in Lagos, including the establishment of fish farms and pig farm estates.
The event showcased the importance of home-grown farming for food sufficiency and job creation. With a focus on empowering youths with farming skills, the community aims to address food insecurity and promote sustainable agriculture.
