Justin Kelly promoted to Deputy Garda Commissioner

The Government has appointed Justin Kelly as the new Deputy Garda Commissioner, filling a position that had been vacant since March. Kelly, who previously served as Assistant Commissioner for Serious and Organised Crime, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the role.

Minister for Justice Helen McEntee expressed confidence in Kelly, stating that his career is marked by achievement and results. She believes he will bring his experience and commitment to An Garda Síochána’s mission.

Garda Commissioner Drew Harris also praised Kelly, highlighting his leadership in key areas such as fighting drugs, organized crime, economic crime, cybercrime, and immigration enforcement.

Kelly’s appointment follows an open competition conducted by the Public Appointments Service. With his extensive policing experience and positive leadership, he is expected to play a crucial role in the strategic direction and day-to-day management of An Garda Síochána.
