Humanitarian groups, lawmakers, and United Nations experts are appalled at the recent atrocities committed by Israeli forces in Gaza, including a deadly bombing of a hospital complex housing displaced Palestinian families.
The Biden administration’s response to the hospital strike was met with criticism from U.S. Rep. Sara Jacobs, who called for exerting leverage against Israel to stop the violence. Rep. Ilhan Omar advocated for cutting off military aid to Israel, citing the repeated use of American-made weapons in attacks on civilians.
The bombing of Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital resulted in casualties, prompting calls for an end to the ongoing violence. Calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian intervention have intensified amid reports of escalating attacks on civilians, including women and children.
Save the Children’s regional director condemned the mass-scale civilian casualties and urged countries to stop supplying weapons used in the attacks. The U.N. under-secretary-general for humanitarian affairs highlighted the ongoing horrors faced by Palestinians in Gaza and stressed the need to protect civilians and infrastructure.
The international community is urged to take action to prevent further atrocities and protect the vulnerable populations in Gaza.
