Israeli soldiers and intelligence agents have been using Palestinians in the Gaza Strip as human shields during their war on Hamas, as reported by The New York Times. Captured Gazans have been coerced into carrying out dangerous reconnaissance missions to protect Israeli soldiers, with at least 11 squads in five Gaza cities involved in this illegal activity.
The use of civilians as human shields is prohibited under international law, yet the Israeli army continues to engage in this practice. At least 42,289 people have been killed and 98,684 injured in Israeli attacks since October 2023.
