The defeat in South Korea marked Iraq’s fourth match in Group B of the Asian qualifiers, putting them in a precarious position as South Korea solidified their lead in the group standings. Despite Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani’s call for national support, Iraq couldn’t outmatch the strong South Korean squad.
Although Iraq fought back with a goal from Ayman Hussein, South Korea dominated the game with goals from Oh Se-hun, Oh Hyun-gyu, and Lee Jae-sung. Ibrahim Bayesh managed to score a consolation goal for Iraq, but it wasn’t enough to change the outcome.
