Iran Protests New EU Sanctions, Summons Hungarian Ambassador
The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Hungary’s ambassador in Tehran to express strong opposition to new sanctions imposed by the European Union against several Iranian individuals and entities. The move was in response to the EU’s approval of sanctions against seven Iranian individuals and entities, including Iran Air, based on allegations of transferring ballistic missiles to Russia.
The Iranian official denounced the sanctions as unacceptable and a violation of international law. He emphasized that Iran’s defense and military cooperation with other countries is legal and aimed at national security, not open to interference. The EU’s actions were condemned as contradictory and detrimental to Iran-Europe relations.
Iran’s close ties with Russia, amidst Western sanctions on both countries, have been highlighted. Iranian officials have reiterated their commitment to enhancing military capabilities for defense purposes, reaffirming that Iran’s defense capabilities are non-negotiable.
