If Hezbollah complied with 1701, Nasrallah would still be alive

Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea emphasized the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in order to prevent further loss of life in Lebanon. Geagea stated that if this resolution had been implemented, Hezbollah’s chief Hassan Nasrallah would still be alive and many lives could have been saved. He urged the Lebanese government to swiftly act on implementing Resolution 1701 along with Resolutions 1559 and 1680, which focus on disarming all militias in the country.

Geagea also cautioned against attacking the Lebanese Army, asserting the importance of respecting the history and legacy of the Lebanese people. He stressed the need for Hezbollah to prioritize Lebanon’s interests over external allegiances and agendas.

Despite the end of the civil war in 1990, Hezbollah has retained its arms citing the need for fighting Israel and liberating Palestinian territories, but Geagea criticized their failure to achieve these goals and instead using their arms for internal conflicts within Lebanon.

Geagea’s call for unity and national interest aims to bring Hezbollah back to the focus of Lebanon’s well-being rather than external alliances. As Hezbollah aligns with Iran, Geagea advocates for a stronger, united Lebanon.
