German intelligence chiefs warned on Monday that Russia may launch an attack on NATO by 2030 and is intensifying efforts to disrupt Ukraine’s Western supporters through sabotage. The BND foreign intelligence chief stated that Germany is directly confronting Russia, and Putin’s goal is to weaken the West. There is a growing threat of Russian espionage and sabotage activities in Germany, including a near miss with an exploding package. Russian disruption activities have escalated to a “real hurricane” moving westward, with eastern neighbors facing a brutal threat. Cases of alleged spying and sabotage linked to Russia have occurred in Germany since the invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The German intelligence heads asked for more powers to counter Russian activities. They highlighted the need to address other threats on German soil, including those posed by China, Iran, radical Islamists, and the far right. The trio of intelligence chiefs emphasized the urgency of strengthening defenses against these threats.
