The Federal Government has taken a step to boost the local catering industry by directing foreign airlines to utilize local caterers for their in-flight meals. This directive, announced by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, is aimed at promoting local businesses and ensuring quality onboard meals.
Effective from January 1, 2025, all outbound flights from Nigeria, particularly foreign airlines, are mandated to comply with this new regulation. The letter conveying this instruction was signed by Mr. Hassan Ejibunu, the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, and addressed to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
Confirming the authenticity of the directive, Tunde Moshood, the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister, mentioned that the decision was announced following a courtesy visit by a delegate from Lufthansa.
This development is a positive step towards supporting local businesses and showcasing the rich culinary diversity of Nigeria to the world. Let’s look forward to enjoying delicious local meals on foreign airlines in the near future!
