Paraguayan guerrilla leader Carmen Villalba’s relatives, seeking refuge in Argentina, have had their refugee status revoked by President Javier Milei’s administration. They may now face extradition to Paraguay to stand trial. Interior Minister Enrique Riera confirmed the withdrawal of political asylum, stating that they were not eligible for refugee status.

In April, new evidence surfaced linking the suspects to the Paraguayan People’s Army (EPP), thanks to cooperation from Argentina’s Security Minister Patricia Bullrich. Riera emphasized the need for extradition, highlighting the suspects’ criminal background. The Interior Ministry will monitor the suspects closely, pushing for their extradition to Paraguay to face justice.

The EPP, a militant group with Marxist-Leninist ideals, has been active in Paraguay since 2008. Villalba, a key figure, is currently behind bars for a kidnapping orchestrated by the EPP.
