The Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH) CEO Donal McManus highlighted the remarkable growth of the Approved Housing Body (AHB) sector over the past decade. From delivering 211 homes in 2013 to 5,924 new social and cost rental homes in 2022, the sector has expanded significantly, reaching over 65,000 homes.
McManus emphasized the crucial role of the AHB sector in the social and affordable housing recovery nationwide. The ICSH, representing over 270 member organizations, will host its Finance and Development conference in Sligo to explore ways to sustain this momentum and overcome potential obstacles in meeting new housing targets.
With AHBs managing homes in 600 communities across Ireland, the sector plays a vital role in the Housing For All plan, delivering 40% to 50% of social housing in each local authority. The recent budget allocation of €2.157bn underscores the government’s support for AHBs and their mission to provide quality housing.
As the AHB sector looks towards the future, an AHB Strategic Forum has been established to shape its vision for the next decade. The conference will feature insights from industry experts, fostering discussions on regional demographics and sustainable delivery methods.
