Media mogul Dovid Efune is in talks to acquire the renowned Daily Telegraph and its Sunday title. In 2020, an article attacking an academic and pro-Palestine activist was published by a journalist under a false identity, accused of being a “deepfake.”
British-born Efune, known for controversial remarks about Israel and Muslims, publishes The New York Sun and chairs The Algemeiner. It was revealed that The Algemeiner published an article by a writer using the fake identity Oliver Taylor, who accused the academic couple of being terrorist sympathizers.
Taylor’s true identity was uncovered by experts and Birmingham University had no record of him studying there. The Algemeiner deleted Taylor’s work after Reuters’s investigation.
Efune, with a history of contentious statements, is under scrutiny as he progresses towards acquiring the Telegraph Media Group. The saga highlights concerns over potential editorial influence and alignment with Efune’s views within the Telegraph newsroom.
