Argentina: College students rise against Libertarian budgetary constraints
President Javier Milei’s veto against the University Finance Bill has sparked nationwide protests in Argentina. Student groups are up in arms, claiming that tuition-free higher education is at risk. Eight schools under the University of Buenos Aires have announced a student strike, including Law, Medicine, and Economics. This marks the first time Economics has joined such a protest, signifying a significant movement against Milei’s government.
Clashes have been reported at the National University of Quilmes, with Libertarian vigilante groups confronting protesting students. The ongoing protests are expected to last between 24 and 72 hours, with open-air classes on the streets and a march planned towards Plaza de Mayo.
