Turning the tide: Azerbaijan’s “Iron Fist” in Second Karabakh War

The Azerbaijani Army’s decisive counter-offensive operation, known as the “Iron Fist,” was launched on September 27, 2020, in response to a large-scale provocation by Armenian forces. The 44-day long Second Karabakh War ultimately led to the liberation of Azerbaijan’s territories from nearly 30 years of Armenian occupation.

Highlights of the 20th day of the conflict include President Ilham Aliyev’s interview, the liberation of key villages in Khojavend district, and the destruction of Armenian artillery. The day also saw civilian casualties due to Armenian shelling, ongoing violations of humanitarian ceasefires, and missile strikes on Azerbaijani territory.

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry shared footage of newly liberated areas, including Hadrut settlement, and the raising of the state flag above liberated border outposts. The day’s events underscored Azerbaijan’s determination to reclaim its territories and stand against aggression.
