China Enhances Security Measures for Peacekeepers in Lebanon

China has announced additional measures to enhance the security of its peacekeepers in Lebanon following attacks by Israel on the UN Interim Force in the country (UNIFIL). Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian confirmed that Chinese peacekeeping troops with UNIFIL are safe and closely monitoring the security situation. Wu stated that Beijing strongly condemns the Israeli military’s attack on UNIFIL and calls for a thorough investigation.

Last week, four UNIFIL peacekeepers were injured by Israeli army shelling in southern Lebanon. UNIFIL was established in 1978 to help restore peace in the region. Israel’s recent airstrikes in Lebanon have caused casualties and displacement of civilians, escalating tensions in the region.

Despite international warnings of regional conflict, China urges all parties to ensure the safety of UNIFIL personnel and assets. The situation remains tense as Israel continues its offensive actions in Gaza and Lebanon.
