The family of murdered Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu is seeking the extradition of one of her killers who fled to Australia. Altantuya was shot and her body blown up with explosives near Kuala Lumpur in 2006. Two former police officers, bodyguards to then-defence minister Najib Razak, were convicted of her killing. The family’s lawyers are urging the Malaysian government to request the extradition of Sirul Azhar Umar, who fled to Australia in 2015. Umar was released from immigration detention last November. The request comes after the successful appeal of the other convicted bodyguard, Azilah Hadri, against his death sentence.
