Belarus, Kyrgyzstan leaders arrive early for SCO summit in Islamabad

Premiers of Belarus and Kyrgyzstan arrived in Islamabad for the 23rd summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). The SCO includes countries like China, India, Russia, and Pakistan, with Pakistan becoming a full member at the 2017 summit. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as the current Chair, will preside over the summit.

Delegations from various countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Belarus, and Tajikistan, arrived in Islamabad for the event. The summit’s programme includes a welcome dinner, group photos, statements from member states, and document signing.

Indian Minister’s Visit

India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will represent India at the summit but has stated that he will not discuss bilateral relations during his visit. Premier Li Qiang of China will also attend, marking the first visit by a Chinese premier in 11 years.

Top-notch Security

Stringent security measures have been implemented in Islamabad, with the Army and Rangers deployed to ensure the safety of delegates. Over 10,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed, and various locations have been arranged for delegate accommodation.

Overall, the summit promises to be a significant event with high-level representation from several countries and a focus on regional cooperation and security.
