Australia urges citizens to evacuate Israel due to escalating tensions

A spike in Israelis leaving the country permanently by 285% after Oct. 7, 2023, has been reported by the Times of Israel. Australia has issued a warning to its citizens regarding travel to Israel due to the escalating conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, advising Australians in the region to leave while commercial flights are available.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong expressed serious concerns about the security situation in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, citing a high threat of military and terrorist attacks. Amid airspace closures, some airlines have reduced or suspended flights to Israel.

Israel has expanded its targets in the conflict with Hezbollah, resulting in casualties on both sides. The tension peaked as four Israeli soldiers were killed in a drone strike, prompting many Israelis to seek refuge abroad.

The trend of Israelis leaving the country has shown a significant increase, as data from Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics indicates a rise in departures last October that continued until June. The situation remains volatile, and the international community closely monitors the developments in the conflict.
