In the wake of escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula, the opposition party urges both North and South Korea to step back from confrontation and embrace dialogue. Amidst concerns over North Korea’s recent military provocations, the opposition spokesperson expressed deep regret over the deterioration of inter-Korean relations symbolized by the destruction of the inter-Korean connection roads. The spokesperson emphasized that escalating military tensions would only lead to isolation and called on the government to halt dangerous gamesmanship.

The main opposition party has set up a National Security Situation Review Committee to address the crisis triggered by the drone incident. The committee, led by lawmaker Park Ji-won, stressed the urgent need to de-escalate the situation, describing the current security environment as the most serious since the Korean War. Lawmaker Boo Seung-chan underscored the gravity of the crisis and called for sincere dialogue between the two Koreas to prevent misunderstandings.

As the situation remains volatile, the committee aims to investigate and hold accountable those responsible for the crisis while seeking ways to relax inter-Korean tensions. The road to peace, they argue, lies in maintaining a strong defense posture while exploring measures to ease the brinkmanship between North and South Korea.
