US sends THAAD system to Israel amid Iran tensions: Israeli army

The tension between Israel and Iran escalated as the US deployed the THAAD anti-ballistic missile defense system in Israel. This move comes in response to Iran’s recent missile attack, prompting Israel to prepare for a potential retaliation. While this deployment is not the first of its kind, it remains uncertain whether it will be permanent.

Developed by Lockheed Martin, THAAD is a defensive weapon designed to intercept high-altitude short and medium-range ballistic missiles. Unlike previous systems like Arrow, David’s Sling, and Iron Dome, THAAD offers the capability to intercept targets both inside and outside the atmosphere.

The recent missile attack by Iran targeted Israeli air bases, causing damage and leading to ongoing preparations for retaliation by Israel. Iran justifies its actions under Article 51 of the UN Charter, citing the right to self-defense against armed attacks. With tensions running high, the deployment of THAAD underscores the volatile situation in the region.
