In call with Israeli counterpart, defense chief Austin stresses importance of ensuring UN peacekeepers’ safety in Lebanon
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin emphasized the need for Israel to pursue a diplomatic approach in Lebanon, moving away from military actions.
During a conversation with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, Austin expressed condolences for Israeli soldiers killed in a drone attack by Hezbollah.
Austin also highlighted the urgent humanitarian situation in Gaza and stressed the importance of addressing it.
Furthermore, the Pentagon announced Austin’s authorization for the deployment of a THAAD anti-missile system battery and US military personnel to Israel, aiming to enhance the country’s air defenses following missile attacks by Iran.
Despite escalating tensions and cross-border conflicts, Austin reiterated the United States’ commitment to Israel’s security.
