The United Nations Calls for End to IDF-Hezbollah Conflict
The United Nations Security Council has urged for a lasting resolution to the ongoing IDF-Hezbollah war, emphasizing the need for diplomatic efforts to bring about peace and ensure the safety of civilians on both sides of the conflict.
The joint statement issued by the UNSC did not directly mention Israel or Hezbollah but called on all parties to abide by international humanitarian law and implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which outlines the ceasefire terms.
While the United States, often an obstacle in such matters, supported the statement, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu vowed to continue striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including Beirut, to defend Israel against the Iranian proxy group.
Netanyahu also called for the removal of UN peacekeepers from the border during IDF operations against Hezbollah and emphasized that Israel’s fight is not against UNIFIL or the people of Lebanon but rather against Hezbollah’s use of Lebanese territory to attack Israel.
Despite tensions and incidents involving UNIFIL personnel, Israel reiterated its commitment to preventing harm to peacekeepers and emphasized the importance of UNIFIL relocating temporarily to minimize risks during military operations.
