Transport upgraded in Cypriot cities: a new and improved system.

Cyprus has officially launched Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) for Limassol and Larnaca, focusing on creating greener, more accessible cities. Funded by the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility, the plans aim to reduce traffic congestion, improve public transport, and promote eco-friendly transport methods like cycling and walking.

The unveiling event, attended by the European Commission’s DG Reform and the European Investment Bank, emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility. Minister Alexis Vafeades highlighted initiatives to encourage public transport use over private cars and introduce electric, non-polluting buses to renew the city’s transport fleet.

The long-term goal is to make Cypriot cities more sustainable, accessible, and resilient, benefiting the environment and enhancing the quality of life for all residents. By investing in these urban mobility strategies, Cyprus is paving the way for a more sustainable future.
