Search for youth who buried ‘rainmaker’ in E. Equatoria.

Recently, authorities in Eastern Equatoria’s Imehejek Administrative Area have launched an investigation into the burial alive of a traditional rainmaker known as Loture by the youth of Lohobohobo Village. The incident occurred after angry youth from Muhalele Boma stormed the rainmaker’s home and buried him alive, blaming him for a prolonged dry spell in the region. This is not the first time such a heinous act has been committed, as a similar incident took place in Mura Lopit in 2021.

The Imehejek administrator, Mathew Oromo, has assured the public that they are investigating the matter and that those responsible will face legal consequences. Eastern Equatoria Youth Chairperson Oriaja James has condemned the action, emphasizing that the climate is unpredictable and should not result in violence against individuals like rainmakers.

It is crucial for the community to handle issues peacefully and refrain from taking the law into their hands. The Director of the Coalition of State Women and Youth Association, Ellizabeth Ihari, has also condemned the act and advised against making promises beyond human control. Let’s strive for justice and peaceful conflict resolution in our communities.
