President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran Emphasizes Regional Cooperation Over Foreign Interference

During a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister, Shahin Mustafayev, President Masoud Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of regional countries working together to ensure security and find solutions. He emphasized that the presence of foreign nations in the region would not benefit the local population and stressed the need to respect the territorial integrity of all states.

Iran welcomes projects that promote collaboration among Muslim nations and favors open markets and increased cooperation among businesses. Pezeshkian also expressed Iran’s interest in developing infrastructure, energy, and agricultural partnerships with Azerbaijan.

Mustafayev reciprocated the desire for closer ties, particularly in the areas of economy, trade, energy, culture, and defense. He emphasized Azerbaijan’s commitment to peace in the region and highlighted the importance of diplomacy in resolving conflicts.

The conversation between the two officials likely touched on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, where Armenia and Azerbaijan have long-standing territorial disputes. Despite recent territorial gains by Azerbaijan, both sides continue to accuse each other of breaching a ceasefire agreement brokered by Moscow.
