The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) recently conducted military drills near Taiwan to warn separatists against pushing for independence. The Joint Sword-2024B exercises involved multiple branches of the military and showcased China’s resolve to defend its territorial integrity.

China Coast Guard fleets also patrolled the waters around Taiwan, enforcing Beijing’s one-China principle. These actions were prompted by Taiwan’s regional leader’s advocacy for independence, seen as a direct challenge to China’s sovereignty.

Experts criticized Taiwan’s leader for escalating tensions with provocative rhetoric and increased defense spending. Despite attempts to soften language, the underlying push for independence remained unchanged, jeopardizing cross-Strait relations and regional stability.

The PLA’s military exercises serve as a clear warning against any separatist moves, emphasizing the Chinese government’s commitment to national unity and territorial integrity.
