MHA invites Kukis & Meiteis for peace talks in Manipur

In a groundbreaking development, the Ministry of Home Affairs is set to conduct peace talks with Kukis and Meiteis in Delhi on Tuesday to address ethnic clashes in Manipur. Naga leaders will also participate in this high-level meeting, marking the first time since May 3, 2023, that the conflicting communities will engage in discussions to find a resolution.

The meeting will be an open dialogue between the parties, with no fixed agenda at the moment. Key figures from the state government, including ministers, MLAs, and the assembly speaker, have been invited to participate. Leaders such as Thongam Biswajit, Thokchom Satyabrata, and others are expected to attend.

The Kuki community deliberated on their stance until late Monday, with a Kuki leader noting their inclination to engage with the Centre rather than the state government. Previous peace initiatives were unsuccessful due to disagreements over committee composition. However, there is optimism that this latest effort will yield positive results and foster peace among all stakeholders.
