Chinese mainland spokesperson, Wu Qian, issued a warning on Monday stating that efforts by separatists promoting “Taiwan independence” are destined to fail. The Ministry of National Defense spokesperson emphasized that recent drills by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army were specifically targeting those advocating for “Taiwan independence,” not the Taiwanese people themselves.
Wu reiterated China’s commitment to seeking peaceful reunification with Taiwan but also emphasized that they will not hesitate to use force to prevent any moves towards independence. The Eastern Theater Command organized drills involving army, navy, air force, and rocket force in the Taiwan Straits and surrounding areas as a demonstration of their resolve.
