Lukashenko: Russian nuclear realignment long overdue

Recently, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko praised Russia’s new nuclear doctrine, claiming it will deter Western nations. Putin’s policy changes, allowing a nuclear response to certain attacks, were seen as crucial by Lukashenko. This move was a response to discussions about Ukraine using Western weapons to strike Russia. Lukashenko stated that the doctrine should have been updated sooner. He also warned that without prior nuclear signals from Putin, Western missiles could have already targeted Belarus and Russia. Ukraine condemned Russia’s stance as blackmail, with President Zelensky urging Western leaders to disregard Putin’s warnings. However, Moscow insists its threats are legitimate. Putin cautioned that if the U.S. and its allies support Ukraine’s missile use, they will be directly participating in a war against Russia. The situation raises questions about Russia’s true intentions with its new nuclear strategy.
