The Kosovo government, led by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, recently announced the unilateral abolition of the visa regime for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina starting from January 1. This decision was shared by Kurti on his Facebook profile during the tenth anniversary of the Berlin Process.
From 2025 onwards, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be able to travel to Kosovo using only their personal documents. However, Kosovo citizens will still be required to adhere to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s visa policy.
This move comes as a response to the existing visa regime in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is hindered by political disputes within the country. The ruling politicians in Republika Srpska, one of the country’s entities, have blocked the agreement for free movement with an identity card.
It is worth noting that Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only country in the region without a visa-free regime with Kosovo. Other neighboring countries like North Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, and Serbia already allow travel with just an identity card.
