Japan Enhances Security Cooperation with NATO to Face Indo-Pacific Threats
Japan has announced plans to boost security cooperation with NATO in response to growing threats in the Indo-Pacific region. Defense Minister Nakatani Gen will attend a NATO defense ministers meeting for the first time during his European tour from Oct. 16 – 21.
He aims to strengthen ties with like-minded countries and discuss joint projects, including the development of a next-generation fighter jet, with NATO partners. The decision reflects Japan’s commitment to the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” vision.
Nakatani’s attendance at the NATO meeting signals Japan’s intent to collaborate with the alliance in addressing security challenges posed by China’s influence in the region.
