Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s diplomatic tour of the Middle East took an interesting turn as he met with a senior official from Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi movement in Muscat. The meeting with Mohammed Abdelsalam aimed at discussing recent developments in the region, including Israel’s threat to retaliate against Iran. Araghchi also held talks with Omani officials to address the conflict in Lebanon and Gaza, calling for an end to aggression and genocide in the region.
As part of Iran’s efforts to strengthen ties with allies and regional powers, Araghchi’s visit to Muscat followed discussions in Baghdad, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. The focus of these talks was on establishing ceasefires in Lebanon and Gaza and preventing the escalation of conflicts. Despite tensions and threats of war, Araghchi emphasized Iran’s preference for peace over conflict.
