Iran warns Azerbaijan against foreign presence in region

During a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev in Tehran, President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized Iran’s respect for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. The president reiterated that no state’s sovereignty should be ignored, but also cautioned against foreign countries establishing footholds in the region to the detriment of regional nations.

President Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of cooperation in addressing security and regional issues, stating that this is Iran’s fundamental policy. He advocated for facilitating trade interactions among Islamic countries and emphasized that borders should not be barriers to strengthening security or fostering relationships.

In addition, Pezeshkian expressed support for enhancing transportation links between Iran and Azerbaijan, particularly in rail and land routes. He stated that Tehran is eager to collaborate with Baku in various sectors, including energy and agriculture.
