India, Canada expel diplomats over killing investigation

Diplomatic Tensions Rise Between India and Canada Over Sikh Activist’s Killing

Diplomatic relations between India and Canada hit a new low as allegations of Indian government involvement in the killing of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar intensified. Both countries expelled six diplomats each as tensions escalate.

Canadian authorities revealed evidence of violent criminal activity linked to Indian government agents operating in Canada. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) disclosed that Indian diplomats engaged in clandestine activities to gather information for the Indian government.

An Escalating Dispute

India’s Foreign Ministry received a message suggesting that its envoy to Ottawa and other diplomats are “persons of interest” in Nijjar’s killing investigation. India dismissed these claims as baseless and demanded evidence from Canada, which has not been provided.

The rift deepened after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents of involvement in Nijjar’s death. India vehemently denied the accusations and temporarily suspended visa services in Canada.

Despite traditionally warm ties, relations have soured following the allegations, leading to further diplomatic clashes between the two nations.

US Prosecutors Also Make Allegations

Canadian authorities have charged Indian nationals in Nijjar’s murder, while US prosecutors accused an Indian government agent of directing a failed plot to assassinate Khalistan advocate Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, an American citizen.
