The Hong Kong government is taking proactive measures to address the increasing cybersecurity risks by organizing its first joint cyberattack and defence drill involving various departments and public organizations.
Officials revealed in a Legislative Council meeting that the annual online security drill will kick off in November to improve coordination among government entities in responding to cyber threats.
With a significant rise in technology-related crimes in 2023, unauthorized access to online services emerged as the most common offense, prompting the urgent need for enhanced cybersecurity measures.
Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Lillian Cheong Man-lei emphasized the escalating cybersecurity challenges faced by Hong Kong due to widespread use of technology, highlighting the critical importance of safeguarding information and internet security.
