Cluster munitions, known for causing harm to civilians both immediately and long-term, are globally prohibited. Recently, Hezbollah accused the Israeli regime of bombing Hanin and Tiri in Lebanon with cluster bombs.
Hezbollah condemned the attack, stating it adds to Israel’s history of crimes against the Lebanese and Palestinians. Reports show Israel previously used banned munitions, including cluster bombs and white phosphorus, in Lebanon and Gaza.
Human Rights Watch confirmed Israel’s use of white phosphorus in populated areas, harming civilians indiscriminately. The investigation revealed Israel’s military deployed white phosphorus munitions in 17 municipalities in south Lebanon since their 2023 war on Gaza.
Despite the ban on cluster munitions by over 100 countries since 2010, Israel continues to use these weapons with full support from the United States. This highlights the ongoing human rights violations in the region.
The international community must take action to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure the protection of civilians in conflict zones.
