German Foreign Ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer has condemned the Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, calling the images of burned children and civilians “horrendous.” At least four people were killed and dozens injured in the airstrike that targeted displaced Palestinians at a hospital in central Gaza.
Fischer emphasized the importance of protecting civilian populations during military operations and stated that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has raised expectations for better protection of Palestinian civilians during visits to Tel Aviv.
Since Israel’s offensive on Gaza began, over 42,000 Palestinians have been killed and 98,400 injured, with the actual death toll possibly much higher. Israel is facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its actions in Gaza.
Germany has been a supporter of Israel throughout its operation in Gaza, but Fischer stressed the need for Israel to change its methods of warfare to be more target-oriented.
The situation in Gaza is dire, with millions of Palestinians displaced, facing famine, shortages of medical aid, and other essentials. It’s time for the international community to take a stand against the atrocities being committed in Gaza.
