Four in court for €8.5m cannabis seizure

A massive €8.5 million worth of cannabis was discovered by Gardaí in Dublin at a storage unit believed to be used by an international criminal organization for drug distribution. The suspects, Raymond Hall, Onkar Singh, Buta Ram, and Nicolae Onica, appeared in court after being arrested by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau at U Store It Self Storage.

The defendants were charged with possession of 426kg of cannabis, stored without the knowledge of the unit operator. While Mr. Hall did not apply for bail, Mr. Singh, Mr. Ram, and Mr. Onica requested release under certain conditions. Translators were provided for the defendants during the court proceedings.

Judge Cheatle denied bail for Mr. Singh and Mr. Ram due to the severity of the charges and their lack of ties to the State. However, Mr. Onica was granted bail upon posting a bond of €10,000 and must secure two independent sureties of €10,000 each before being released.

The four suspects are scheduled to appear at Cloverhill District Court for further proceedings on Friday.
