Cairo Shines as the Ideal Host for WUF12 – UN-Habitat

Cairo has been chosen as the host city for the 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF), with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach praising the city for representing the challenges and potentials of sustainable urban development. The forum, organized in collaboration with the Egyptian government, marks a significant return to Africa after more than two decades.

With the theme “It all starts at home: Local actions for sustainable cities and communities,” WUF12 will highlight the crucial role of cities in driving sustainable development and addressing global challenges like the housing crisis, climate change, and social displacement. Rossbach emphasized solutions should begin at the local level where people live and work.

Set to take place in Cairo from 4 to 8 November 2024, WUF12 aims to bring together over 10,000 participants from 168 countries to discuss innovative solutions for urgent urban issues. The event will include more than 500 events, an Urban Expo, and Cairo Urban Week to connect the Forum with the city and local communities.
