The Federal Government is currently reevaluating Nigeria’s Intellectual Property Policy to support creators, preserve cultural heritage, and spur innovation. Minister of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, and Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Doris Uzoka-Anite, engaged with stakeholders in Abuja to discuss the importance of intellectual property in the country.
Intellectual property encompasses intangible creations of the human intellect, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. President Bola Tinubu aims to attract investments, necessitating a robust IP policy to facilitate business growth.
Musawa emphasized the administration’s commitment to fostering partnerships and investments in Nigeria’s cultural and creative sectors. Uzoka-Anite highlighted the role of an IP policy in economic growth, stating that it provides guidance on ownership rights and commercialization benefits.
